C O M F O R T - J O Y - G I N
As the penultimate month of a remarkable (?) year draws to a close, I hope you’ve found some comfort in the things and the people that make you happy. Maybe this year has made you stop and think about what you enjoy, as well as what you’ve missed and maybe what you haven’t?
Clearly ‘Black Friday’ hasn’t been affected one iota - up to this point, I'm pleased to report I’ve resisted the frenetic ‘buy buy buy’ for this and tat offers thus far – desperately reminding myself that if it’s not on the list, it aint coming in! … although technically it’s not actually ‘Black Friday’ until tomorrow, so I’m not out of the woods yet – I loved this article in the ‘Living etc’ magazine ‘Just For Fun: 13 of the most useless products on Amazon we can’t believe actually exist’ https://www.livingetc.com/funny-products-amazon - The ‘Bathe & Brew Shower Coffee Maker’ made me laugh, along with the gift of ‘Handerpants’ for the man in your life who has everything he needs.
On the note of the man in my life, in all honesty, it’s actually been quite nice having my husband working from home for the past ... er … 5952 Hours; 248 days; 35 weeks … not that I've been counting? Anyway, he finally ordered a desk hoorah! … I can’t tell you how happy I will be to see that and finally the hub/heart of the house (aka the kitchen) will resume normal service. Anyhoo, last week he happened to mention that all the Christmas online food shop slots had gone – pahhh I thought, what do you know about Christmas shopping, I do it every year (seriously relieved I did not say that out loud!!). I checked yesterday, he mentioned it on Friday … gulp … bugger ... he was right! Blimey riley, people really are organised this year, I guess it's not a normal year though is it …. Deliveroo anyone? Joking aside, I bet someone has come up with ingenious idea to deliver a Xmas dinner with all the trimmings to you at home?
So, in my last newsletter, I mentioned that I’d share some of my ‘tried & tested / will test & report back’ top finds with you all, not much to report from November I'm afraid, Lockdown 2.0 is lacking lustre on the trying and testing front other than ...
1. As you may recall, I pledged to reduce our plastic waste by getting our milk delivered by ‘Milk & More’ – it has been awesome – delivered in glass bottles that I return each week, feels good, tastes great and also arrives on my step before 7.30am.
2. For a birthday treat, I ordered some fab 'Pizza's by Post' from the 'Pizza Pilgrims' what fun that was - the concept is simple, freshly made dough (double fermented and flour from Naples too no less) - fry it then pop it under the hot grill and voila your own pizza night 'in in' complete with your own play list - bravo Pizza Pilgrims team great idea under the circumstances! https://www.pizzapilgrims.co.uk/fryingpanpizza/
Thanks also to my pal Cara from @ginandinteriors for this great shot - we went for a woodland trudge - I took gin and supplies - one always has to be prepared in these strange times we find ourselves in! x
What's New at Gin & Yin HQ??
Earlier this month I had a lovely ‘Instagram Live’ with Francesca at Villa Olivo in Le Marche to talk about what’s in store for us when we’re there from 5th – 8th May – we really are in for a treat on this trip - just seeing her by the fire pit with a ‘Scriptorium’ G&T in hand was enough to get me excited – I then finished the chat by inviting Lisa Dunn on too who is the gorgeous yoga teacher on this one – I’ll be having more chats with other retreat venues and collaborators in the New Year too, so watch this space.
I also trialled the ‘Hormone Rebalancing Detox Retreat’ that I mentioned in my last newsletter with Lisa Dunn (doing the yoga) and a Naturopath called Asa Simonsson – it was a fascinating few days – I will definitely incorporate more ‘whole grains and good fibre’ into my diet going forward, along with dry skin brushing … not keen on cold showers or DIY enemas! .. but I can see the benefits – also check out Asa’s book on ‘Fermentation’ https://www.waterstones.com/book/fermentation/asa-simonsson/9780754834649
Last but not least, I also hosted my very first ‘Sip & Sketch’ Zoom Sesh (containing art and gin) collaborating with the lovely Lynette from ‘The Art Class’ – what a creative and tasty fun night in we all had – huge thanks to Martin Millers Gin and to Mr. Filbert's nuts too, the goodie boxes were so lovely, someone even asked if they could buy one? Hmm.. maybe that's an idea? To see what we got up to and the end results

- Luxury 3 Night Italian Retreat -
Weds 5th - Sat 8th May 2021

Dare I even type this, but there seems to be a glimmer of light from what has been a rather long and bendy tunnel - I'm already delighted to have 10 ladies on board the above retreat and now only have 1 room left that can be taken as either a twin or single occupancy.
When I last looked, flights were £66 return which is amazing value too. To get a flavour of what we'll be up to, take a look at Villa Olivo's Instagram account @villaolivomarche and see their 'EAT RETREAT' video. All this plus wonderfully restorative daily yoga; a coastal bike ride; optional wellness workshops and so much more - truly I personally can't wait!
What's the Cost:
£200 secures your place - 3 nights (almost all inc. other than flights and lunch at the beach) £975 pp based on 2 ladies sharing an en-suite twin room, or £1,300 pp based on single occupancy. Any questions just shout.
May you all be merry
and bright x
Sending you some seasonal cheer for the coming weeks - good luck with your shopping orders and I hope there's as much 'ta-da-ing' as there is 'to-do-ing' going on - I'll be trying out some new festive gin recipes thanks to Hayman's Gin and to 'Inverrocche' a new South African Gin starting with a tasting session tonight! ... and who knows what on earth I'll buy tomorrow - I could fancy myself in a pair of those lying down periscope glasses.
Get your baubles out, your festive gins in and your dancing shoes on! It's nearly time to get this party (in the kitchen) started! (Photographed here with the lovely Emma @stylingyouwell from around this time last year!)
