Say Hello To 'The Rule of 6'
The best view comes after the climb and what a climb it has been
Well folks, it’s been a whole 12 months and smidge since Boris made his first national emergency announcement and dare I even type this … but there's a renewed sense of freedom is the air starting with 'The Rule of 6'. This news along with the promise of longer warmer days, bird song and new blooms appearing in my garden has certainly lifted my mood that’s for sure as a well-crafted G&T.
How about you? Are you approaching this next phase with caution, or is your diary already filling up fast with alfresco lunches, garden gatherings, hair appointments and cheeky overnighters? Whilst I haven’t got a table booked for April 12th, or the 13th, 14th or 15th for that matter, I have been putting dates in my diary across the year for my ’50 things for my 50th year / decade’, so all being well with the world, I’ve got some really lovely things to look forward, which is enough to keep me going.
Reflecting on the past year though has been both heart-breaking and heart-warming, we shouldn’t for one moment underestimate the impact this will have had on us as individuals, the people around us and on life in general – that’s not to say we should linger here for too long, whilst it’s good to reflect, it’s also important to look forward. Spring is a wonderful season of new life and new beginnings, the perfect opportunity to lift our faces to the sun and enjoy the prospect of meeting up with family and friends for long overdue hugs and good cheer.
Talking of raising a glass (any excuse), this is the bit where I share a few things that have lifted my spirits this month:
On the Telebox I’ve watched 3 very good films this month - ‘The Dig’ - 'The Imitation Game' and ‘The Guernsey Literary - and Potato Peel Pie Society’ - loved them all.
Talking of Food (not that I’ll be rushing to make a potato peel pie anytime soon) – I must give a shout out to ‘The Cook Away’ who have launched online ‘Cookalongs’ - a great concept, easy to follow, fun and delicious – 20% off your first order too – https://www.thecookaway.com/cookalong-landing
I've also been inspired by an Incredible Woman called Jeanne Socrates, a British yachtswoman who holds the record as the oldest female to have circumnavigated the world single-handed and the only woman to have circumnavigated solo nonstop from North America at age 77. I believe she only properly got into sailing when she was around 48 too, I mean how incredible is that! Living proof that you’re never too old to start something new.
And this month’s Book ... let's be honest here, probably next months book too as I’m slow reader! … is called ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ by Richard Osman ... so far so good.

What's Been Happening at Gin & Yin HQ?
March has been a busy month on the virtual events front, all featuring a spot of ‘Sipping, Sketching & Painting’ plus my first private birthday 'Sip & Paint' session which was wonderful too. Nice group shot above from fun a 'Sip & Sketch' session.
Over 60 boxes have been lovingly packaged up and delivered this month, so a toot toot to that. I really couldn’t have done them without the wonderful people, suppliers and brands who have made these online events and boxes of loveliness so fab this month, so here goes: China @https://www.artistand.co.uk & Lynette @ https://www.the-art-class.com Plus - https://www.hollysgin.com; https://thegoodlifeginco.co.uk; https://www.lanticgin.com/home; https://www.navasdrinks.com in addition to self-care treats from https://www.ardeateas.co.uk; https://theoilchemist.com; https://www.ermana.co.uk & https://www.newleafnurseries.co.uk
Thank you all from the bottom of my gin glass x
On the retreats front, I was sad to have to move my Italian Retreat from May to October (although that one is now full, so not all sad news) and I’ve moved my ‘Restorative Mountain Retreat’ in Marbella from June 2021 to Thursday 9th - Sunday 12th June 2022 – still good availability on that one.

Thurs 16th - Sun 19th Sept 2021
I appreciate there is still a huge amount of uncertainty around overseas travel right now, however, as most of you know, I am the eternal optimist, so I still wanted to let you know that all being well with the world, I have 1 room left on this retreat which can be booked as a 'twin' or as a 'triple' option - each room has it's own ensuite bathroom and private terrace. I am only taking deposits at this stage which will be refunded minus an admin fee of £50 if I need to cancel it, or you can transfer to a future retreat with no admin cost.
This retreat is almost all inclusive, including most meals, daily yoga, a guided evening hike and airport transfers.
How much is it?
£200 deposit secures your space - with a balance of £580 to pay in July.
March 2020 vs. March 2021

This photo was taken last March 2020 and as my lovely friend Fran will tell you, this is pretty much the exact outfit I had on for our ride yesterday too! Whilst so much as changed, I'm reassured that some things are the same too - grateful that my family have come out of the other side of Covid, for receiving my first jab, for my bike and the best padded bike seat a woman could wish for - along with good quality leggings, rain coat and trainers, that have all washed extremely well over the past 12 months!
Onwards and upwards now with more lovely retreats to be announced in April's Newsletter to Marrakech and hopefully Portugal too - take care out there and as the saying goes - "life is like riding a bicycle, in order to keep your balance, you must keep moving"
