A Seasonal Lift

(Remember you are somebody's sunshine)

Hello Petals,

Thank goodness for the changing seasons, I’m so relieved that no-one can slap a date on Spring … it’s incoming and I'm welcoming it in for tea with open arms … with or without the G! Whilst I’ve loved the whole 'hygge' business, I’m now ready to fold away the fluffage, prise open up the windows and fill my vases and jars with bright yellow daffodils.

Nothing shouts 'Spring!' like daffodils crocuses and snow drops. Seeing the new buds unfurl is a sure sign of new beginnings, filling me with a renewed sense of hope to think more positively about life beyond lockdown. I hope it’s having the same effect on you too, so much so, I want this month’s newsletter to be a ‘pick me up’ to help put a spring in our step to match the season, so here goes:

First up - flowers in the house - this is a no-brainer right now as there's an abundance of daffodils out there at the moment and they're affordable too, with lots of different varieties on offer. I am also Welsh and this is our national flower, so yes, I could possibly be a tiny bit biased. Here's a bit of daffodil trivia for you .. the daffodil is named after the vain hunter in Greek mythology called Narcissus. He was so in love with his own reflection in the water that he ultimately drowned in it. That’s why daffodils are always looking down a bit.

Pack a Spring Picnic – Whether it’s to take down the garden, or to enjoy in the park or woodland, there’s something lovely about eating outside particularly after the winter months. Check out this super easy Pancetta, Onion and Gruyère Tartlets recipe: https://fromthelarder.co.uk/pancetta-onion-and-gruyere-tartlets/

along with picnic ideas here too:

Last but not least every lovely picnic needs a lovely cocktail so as it’s marmalade season (it’s still on my list to make, along with banana bread and sourdough!) – anyways, this is a tried and test winner from Hayman’s Gin, who I've really enjoyed working with on past events:

Marmalade Collins - 50ml Hayman’s Old Tom Gin - 25ml Lemon Juice - Orange Marmalade - 100ml Soda water - Dehydrated orange wheel to garnish.

What's New at Gin & Yin HQ?

February has been quite the roller coaster - the highs being 2 really great fun online virtual events, thanks to China Jordan, Founder of Artistand.co.uk and Lynette Pitzolu, Founder of the Art Class. Both events ‘SOLD OUT’ which was fab, my kitchen table looked more like a craft shop at one point with 40 odd boxes and packages of art and craft supplies, gin, nuts, olives and self-care treats!

The feedback has been so wonderful, we’ve decided to run both of them again, but this time with a botanical theme, see below for more information on these. On the Retreats side of things, it continues to be a little uncertain as you might imagine. Since the Government's announcement last week, I've been busy seeking out alternative retreat dates; moving ladies over to new retreats later in the year and offering credits. Everyone has been incredibly kind though and no further refunds have been issued so far, which as a tiny business is so helpful right now. On a positive note, I truly believe meaningful travel and retreats is the way forward after all this, so I’m working hard to keep them all in place and create more wonderful experiences ahead, so

watch this space ....

So What's Next on the Virtual Front?
