Thumbs up to 'Active April'
Have you noticed how glorious the mornings have been this month? Feeling the warmth of the sun on my face has also been a welcome shot of Vitamin D, along with blue-sky walks and little jars of spring flowers dotted around the house have definitely put a spring in my step this month, I hope you're feeling the same. I even popped a frock on last week – on reflection, I’m not sure my legs were ready, as my friend commented she’d never seen my pins looking so white - charming - I suppose they have been insulated in various forms of long and stretchy since about mid-October? It felt good though to give them a bit of an airing never the less as we transition from Spring to Summer.
On a sad note, watching the virus ravaging through other countries on the world news is heart-breaking, while our UK news is now back to tit for tat politics, so I guess that’s some form of normality? Hoping everyone reading this newsletter has had their first vaccine by now? Mine was super-efficient I have to say, thanks again to our fabulous NHS – roll on jab number 2 too, even though I don't relish the thought of another post jab 3 day wipe out, alas, needs must.
Activities this month have included 2 fun virtual cook-a-longs and I ventured out for 2 outdoor lunches both of which were wonderful, happy birthday Mrs. T - and I managed to book an impromptu electric 'Go Boat' trip on the river Thames for all the family - sunshine on the way up the river, arctic wind and 0 sun on the way back, which when the max speed is 4 mph, required serious thermals and a heater (neither of which we had of course!). The extra life jackets came in very handy as body warmers - have to laugh - even the teenagers with some form of street cred put them on. Going 'out out' dressed for summer might have been a tad optimistic. Great to also see restaurants making the most of their outdoor spaces too and to watch people enjoying themselves in the company of friends and family once again - those with blankets and proper clothes on definitely looked the happiest – note to self!
I also started the month with my best foot forward and signed up to the ‘Active April Challenge’ www.activeapril.com with www.maisondelunel.com – what a fab idea - it consists of logging 30 mins a day of exercise / movement, and by sharing photos with one another it’s kept us all motivated (see photo) along with sticking my activity sheet up in the kitchen, ticking off with a pen and highlighter may well be old fashioned, but hey, it works - cheers to all my fellow active
April-ers. I also officially signed up to the lovely Pebble Community a ‘trusted guide to sustainable living’ – if you’re interested in learning more contact firstname.lastname@example.org
I haven’t watched much on the Telebox front this month tbh, as I’ve been doing a spot of freelancing on a virtual festival for a corporate client, which has kept me on my toes, however, we did watch ‘The Trial of the Chicago Seven’ which I feel is worthy of a mention, it's the story of 7 people on trial surrounding the uprising at the 1968 Democratic National Convention’- it was educational, eye opening and really well-acted. I also continue to dip in and out of the ‘Fortunately’ Podcasts with Fi Glover and Jane Garvey – always witty, funny and slightly risqué in parts – long may that continue.
What's Been Happening at Gin & Yin HQ?
Whilst G&T making and sipping has been top notch this month, virtual events haven't been quite so good. April has been much quieter than March, no doubt due to the appeal of the ‘out out’ experience returning and quite right too. Sadly, we had to cancel the macrame ‘Sip & Make’ virtual due to lack of interest, which was a real shame, however we tried it and as a small business, it’s important to keep testing. I am still running the Sip & Glow virtual this Thursday though featuring the wild side of gin by @lanticgin - a lovely craft Cornish Gin which will be real treat - spaces are still available on that one if you fancy joining us – see below. Maybe it’s time to start putting a few ‘in person’ events back on the radar too - what do you think? .... do you feel ready?
On the retreats front, my Luxury Italian Retreat is now beyond full with some ladies staying in an overflow property near the villa (which is gorgeous too of course) – this is going to be a really special trip, I just have the small matter of the world rebalancing itself to enable us to get there.
Wish us luck!
